sewing buckskin?

do you guys stitch holes before or after framing/hand stretching? I've read you should do it before drying to make it dry flat. Problem is....as the hide dries the stitches pull out. when I stitch them dry, they seem to "pucker".

are you talking about racking a hide to dry scrap.. or racking a hide to brake with a paddle?

wetscrape. racking it after you have brained it. the stitches want to pop as you work it with a paddle

Oh. I've never done one that way. have you ever tyred to brake one on a wire? and on your lap?

Jesse, I just finshed breaking one yesterday on a cable an on knees an hands. I thought hit came out real good for first attept. Flanks came out dead soft , a little stiff on the spine , had a spot on one hip just didn,t want to dry course the neck is stiffer than I like but all in all came out okay for first attempt. I know it,s cold there but you should try working outside with 3 feet of snow on ground. Later Bob

Deersled, I sewed up my holes just before softing but I didn,t frame soften, Had to be careful with cable around stitches, had one rip out.:>{  Later Bob

bob are you talking about stitching bullet holes and stuff or lacing it to a frame to dry. im still lost ;D

Jamie , bullet holes an cuts, I don,t use frames just try an soften   with a cable an across my lap. Should I be framing?  These are My first attempts.  Later Bob
