first attempt
« on: January 06, 2010, 01:31:35 am »
well this was my first attempt at paralell flaking
i watched somes vids on you tube the other day
and thought to myself, damn that must be how shannon and jesse and the other guys get them looking so nice, and thin too
so i went down to my little hole of a work area last night and grabbed a piece of rock.some more of what i got from jesse, know idea what it is just that i like it ;)
i percussed the preform and then went to down with my first attempt at paralell flaking and this is what i ended up with
the one side has a hinge in the middle of the point, that was from persussion.couldnt work it out and still get a point so i left it.
what ya think?
thanks for peeking

Dang fine job!  The more times you go over one, the slicker it'll get.
That looks like Ky blue to me.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Nice looking work for the first try.  Can I ask for a link to those videos that you mentioned?
Paralel oblique is something that I haven`t tried yet, but if I can see it done maybe I can
give it a try.  Is that on Paleomanjim`s youtube ? Edbo`s?  Lots of places to check, but I`m
new to knapping & need all the information I can get to shorten the learning curve.
