Has anyone made a bow from California live oak?

 Just wondering if anyone out there has tried this wood? I beleive it is coast live oak. I just cut a nice log but the growth rings are huge. biggest I have ever seen

Southern Live Oak is nice. Dunno about west coast stuff. Try it.

Yes, but compared to the Valley Oaks its usually a bit squirrley. If you have  some workable wood you should be fine.  From what I have learned and done, the Chumash havested the straight saplings which often grew on the shady hill sides and stretched straight to reach the light..

Coast Live oak is super dense, folks here (in northern CA) use it for tool handles.  I saw a bow out of interior live oak that was really sweet. Hope it works out for you.
