Shaving Horse

Couple of picts of a shaving horse I built about twenty five years ago. I built it out of one white oak log with a bucksaw, wedges, hammer, hatchet, brace and bit and a foot adz. Still use it on self bows and any time I need to make a handle for something. The seat is overlog so I can bolt a vice to it.

Ya Mullet, I made a living turning all kinds of wood stuff for a lot of years. This machine swings 24 inside 44 outside and has 12 ft between centers  with a 3hp electronic variable speed drive. Doesn't make a sound while it's running. I got rid of two lathes that I had, only have three left.

The "dumbhead" the part that holds the work has two vertical positions so I can hold a variety of thicknesses of material.
