HAPPY THANKSGIVING & Finally got a bow to post: Maple Holmegaard
« on: November 26, 2009, 12:54:50 pm »
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I made this bow two weekends ago and just started putting the finish on it before I left for school. Its a maple holmegaard 67" ntn, about 50#@28". The handle is 8" long. Fades taper from 2 1/4" to 1 1/2" @ mid limb. Then the stiff tips eiffel tower to 3/8". Unbraced set at about 3/4" settling to 0". Limbs were heat treated to about a 1/2" of reflex and tips heat treated to stiffen for reduced mass. Blood tip overlays. I'm really happy with how this bow came out but I think I could have made more sacrifices in mass to the outer limbs. The next one will have more narrow tips and more reduced mass at mid limb. Tiller looks slightly uneven at full draw but a little adjustment in the nocking point on the string will fix that. I'm still not sure which limb will be the top one. Its a pretty fast shooter with the arrows I have and shoots extremely straight for reasons I don't understand. Thanks for looking and this one is up for BOM.

Sorry I have such a hard stare in this picture. It was taking my dad forever to take the pic.  :D

Looks like a Holmegaard to me! Well done, sir! Your tiller looks very good... narrow, non-bending outer limbs... low string angle. Good stuff.

Thanks guys. I just got back from GanderMtn and shot it a couple times through the chronograph. Highest I was able to get was 168 but the average was more like 162. Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys. These bows are extremely fun to make. NTD here is a bow by kviljo he posted on paleoplanet. He is an acomplished flight shooter as far as I know and makes fantastic bows. This particular bow is for flight shooting but I'm sure little modifications can be made to make it more durable for hunting. http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/topic/6273

Excellent bow!

That is a speedy design.

It's highest number from the chrono that counts ,right.
