I took a few days off from work to hunt this week. I had a great time and saw a few deer.
Wed. afternoon I had a big Eight point sneak in on me. He caught me setting with my bow hanging on a limb. He was twelve yards and all I could do was be still and watch him walk out of range. Thrusday was the best day hunting with Doug Peters and Keith Vaughn we all saw deer running around and the weather was cool. That afternoon I was up and ready about an hour before dark when the deer started to move. The wind was still and it was so quite in the woods I could hear the deer running from over a hundred yards off. Two little deer were chaseing and heading my way. They put on a show. Then to my right and behind me I heard the steady walk of a deer. I slowly truned to see a two and a half year old 8pt buck coming in working a scrap line and little trees over. He or the little ones never got closer then 30 yards way to far for me. The funny thing was that the 8 pt came up to the little deer and was scraping the leaves when the little button buck fronted him and started scraping the leaves with him. He had no fear of the larger deer. They all went away and I set back down. Then I heard a deer walking coming in from my left. I have a lot of trees on that side of the stand and could not see the deer. I stood up and got ready. At 18 yards I saw it was a small buck. He came in and worked a scrap I had made that morning at about 10 yards. He keep coming across in front of me at 5 yards when he went behind an oak tree I drew my bow. When he came out the other side I released. He dropped down to get out of there and just keep going down. The arrow hit him in the spine and he stayed down.I had to get down to get another shot. He tried to get away and pulled the frist arrow out. I got it and got around him to finish him off. Not a big deer but a trophy to me. 5 points on a broken rack. His weight was 110 lbs dressed. I had a super day with friends. Come to find out the guys I was hunting with had a chance at deer also but missed. We should have tripled up.
