I was wondering if any body could post some pics of what to look for in a good candidate of a Osage tree. I have access to lot of Osage, but don't want to just start cutting in hopes of getting a good one for some  staves

dano you the man that was exactly what i wanted to know his pics make it look easy don't it and radius i like the cut cut cut idea but the guy that is letting me cut off his land would appreciate me being a little more selective  ;D

here in oklahoma peps want you to cut cut cut if it is osage, they dont like em down here. like snakes and ticks.

This time of a year, it is easy to identify.  They make big greenish yellow horse apples.  Some call them osage apples, hedge apples, spider apples, etc. etc..

The trees have big thorns on them as well.

been catching up on posts i haven't read and saw this.  i think its important to add, look for twist (bark grain moving diagnolly up the tree) and cat faces (unusual spots in the bark that mean dead limbs that never sprouted).  Now don't be afraid of knots every osage stave has a couple or more.  cut cut cut
