First deer of the season
« on: October 01, 2009, 05:14:13 am »
Shot this 105 lb. doe Tues. evening, not a great shot.I gave her a couple of hours then went to track.I tracked her about 125 yards and when she went into a thicket I lost the blood,so I pulled out and went back Wed.morning.She was 20 yards from where I had pulled off.Thank goodness it was in the 40s Tues. night and she was in good shape.I was shooting one of the Osage Take downs I built this summer.53@26 with one of the Tonkin arrows Cora Gave me at the Classic with a 160 ace head. I didn't think you could break a tonkin arrow but you can. ;) :) Thanks Cora,I told you I would use them. ;) :)

Congrats Pappy from Mason and I !!! What a long nosed snoot ! You will be glad you got her out of the woods, she would bust you later in the year at one time or another. We ALWAYS try to take them older does out first if possible, they are smarter than a buck sometimes. Had them blow us out of a spot more than once when the buck was coming in and the old nanny kept milling around till she finally would get downwind before the buck gave us a shot.

We will be in the tree this afternoon where Mason shot a doe and a nice 6 point last year with his osage and Allen Varnell's cane with a two balde Magnus. If we do not whack one this afternoon, we will be right back in the same tree at daylight.
