New bows
« on: September 28, 2009, 05:29:22 pm »
It has been a while since I shared any bows with you so I thought I would share a couple of my latest. I have been playing with some Gordon style stain jobs. I hope you enjoy. The first is elm with snake skin backing, custom dye job and silk wrap. I made it for my dentist to hunt with this year so it has 6 matching arrows, 3 with field points and 3 with stone. It is 66"  60# @ 26".  I know, more pictures, but this is all there is.  ;D

The second is one for a guy at work. It is boo backed Ipe, 64" 55# @26".  This one has an unusual stain job on it and a silk wrap on each limb tip. I dyed it green and waited a couple of days. Then I stained it brown and sprayed it with acetone. The acetone made the brown settle into the deep spots. You can hardly see the green now, but it adds a lot of depth to the color.

Those are a couple of nice looking bows. I love the contrast of the black and red on the handle.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
I was planning to go shooting with the owners and get the full draw pictures, but I haven't had a chance. I delivered one at the the dentist office and we didn't think the patients would feel comfortable with that.  The other picked his up on lunch break.
Dano, it would have been nice, but I don't get accused of that too often.  8)
Dana, I do know better but......  ::)
radius, I have never stained boo before. It was kind of a hassle. The acetone was an experiment and I'm glad to say it worked well. I just hope I can duplicate it.  ;D
