Square bottle bottom
« on: September 09, 2009, 12:18:13 pm »
I have a really good square rum bottle with a flat bottom. I would like to use as much of it as I can since the sides are flat. Has anyone tried to use the nail trick to pop the bottom out of a square bottle? Will it work the same as it does on a beer bottle or round bottle?

The nail trick doesn't always work with bottles.  Try it... if it doesn't work... try the sides ;D  When in doubt use a glass cutter then you can get all 5 parts to work on.  If that doesn't work... go get another bottle of rum and try it again ;)  Joe H

Thanks Joe. I was actually thinking about picking up a glass cutter on the way home. I was just wondering if any one had already tried. Hey, if I try it and it doesn't work, it's only an empty bottle.... and it would give me a good reason to pick another one up!  Steven T

All depends on who is looking at it. It looks darn good to me! I'll be real happy when my glass starts to look that good. :D

Thanks. I am going to the Knap-in in NC this weekend. It will be my first and I'm really looking forward to it. Besides breaking a few rocks I will finally get to learn what the heck tiller means. Yea.... I am not that young but when it comes to bow making, i'm even greener than what I know about knapping.

That's a nice one, Bob- I like the color of that Jaeger bottle, too.

That's a cool looking point, Bob. I know a lot of knappers look down there nose at glass, but it looks good and is sharp. I love making them out of those ol'Clorox bottles.

I love the old Clorox bottles, my problem with them is that
I`ve only found 2 of them in a long time.  Any hints as to
where to look for them in the future?  Great looking point BTW
Bob. Looks like you`ve got good convexity side to side as
well as lengthwise. Do you abrade the egdes when you`re done
so that you can show them to friends without risk of cutting anyone
or leave them sharp & put them in a frame for future reference?
