Hi! I'm new here
« on: December 27, 2009, 09:20:42 pm »
Hi!  I'm new here.  I'm fairly new to archery and chose to go with traditional ways.  I shoot an English longbow  40-45# @28".  It will teach you how to shoot it.  My first time I didn't have my bracer yet.  I thought that my coat would be enough to protect my arm.  It kind of stung at first, then went numb.  I thought it was more the cold weather, but it wasn't.  I didn't really feel it until the next day.  My arm was swollen and bruised bad near my elbow and half way to my wrist.  I didn't try again until after I had received my bracer.  I bought the biggest bracer that I could find, but it still didn't fit or cover enough area on my arm.  I eventually made my own with 3 ply leather.  I still kept hitting my elbow area in front of the bracer.  It caused my to change my footing and reposition my body.  Now I don't hit my arm at all.  So, yeah...it will teach you how to shoot properly and if you forget...it will remind you.  I'm doing alot better now.  I'm starting to group my arrows on the bails instead of the back of the range.  Now all I have to do is hit the targets, lol.   :D

String Hickeys. Thats funny! I have painful memories of those, and cringe every time I see someone new shooting that does not take the advice of someone who has experienced one. Definitely bend the elbow!! :'(

Hello!!!!!!!!! Amazing how many colors the human skin can turn into. Chameleon effect in the presence of a rapidly moving bow string will do it every time. Been there. Welcome and I be pretty new myself. Been shooting trad over 30 years, been doin' computers a whole lot less. Going forwards now into primitive bows. Luv it!
