bow wood??elder berry?

hey i am up in the woods a lot this time of year cause of hunting and i am wondering if any one has any one used elder berry wood?

Hmmm.  All the elder berry bushes Ive cut down were brittle with hollow cores.  If we are talking about the same plant, I dont see where they would be any good for a bow.  I could be wrong.

 I do know the berries make a big mess. ;D

Elderberry is a good bow wood if you can find a straight stave without too much  knots. Build up to about 45-50# is possible - likes heat treating.
Short bows with a bending handle are also an option.

yep, my wife shot a 60# elderberry she had built herself  (shut up pat  ;D ).  shot great, but exploded last winter.  i guess we shouldn't have taken it straight from the heated archery room (yes we have such a thing  ;D ) out to freezing temperatures and shoot it.  it exploded into 4 fragments.  all she had left in her hands was the handle and the string.
