Recurving and removing twist
« on: August 26, 2009, 04:52:56 pm »
I was just wondering if recurving the tips of a bow would remove any twist...Im in the process of making a 60" osage recurve and getting into it i found that my bottom limb has a little twist...just wondering how much the recurving process would take out?
Thanks in advance!!!

When you are bending your recurve into it you can add a bit of twist to line every thing up with the handle..

Ky,can you heat it just enough to get the twist out?I do it on mine all the time.Matter of fact,I've never had a piece that did'nt need some un-twisting.I clamp the stave down, tighten a Jorgenson clamp above the area to work.Hang a light weight on the Jor.clamp.Spread a little veg.oil on the area I'm heating, then heat with a heatgun till the twist comes out.Just be careful not to over -do,as the wood may check,if you go too far. Again, let me stress, this is only for small to medium twists, but I have removed 90 degrees of twist with only minor checking.Nothing that a little super glue would'nt fix.  Hope this helps. God Bless
