I noticed a good sized osage tree lying on the hillside after a recent thunder storm. It took some persuasion, but I got my dad to help me get it out of the creek bed. After a lot of sweat, and a little hassle from a state trooper, we got these four logs to the house. The two smaller ones might end up being fence posts, but the two big ones look pretty good. I was hoping that it would have decent growth rings, since it was growing near a creek bed. I coated the ends with wood glue as soon as I cut them, and then put on a second coat once I got them to the house and I still had some splits starting.
Here is a shot of the rings. The best rings will take some work to get down to.
The biggest log is 85" long and the other three are about 78".
These will be the biggest trees that I have used so far.
I was able to get the biggest one split into 3 pieces before I had to leave for work.
