The optimum weight of a 4/4 violin bow with hair and a wire grip is 60 Grams.   The frog tensions the hair with a "draw-screw" assembly and the bow is tight enough to play with about a pound of tension, maybe a bit more.  There's about 150 hairs.....or 4 grams, all combed out, no crossovers and equal length and tension, held in the mortices with wooden plugs, no glue.

These bows are awaiting restoration and include several sizes of violin, plus some viola, 'Cello and at least one bass.

Rather than shooting deadly, pointed arrows......the player soon learns that making loud and obvious screechy mistakes will get them deadly, pointed glances from the listeners.   :)

Good one :D I thought man that Piper has been busy. At least it wasn't the little bows you put on gift boxes. My wife has a cello so she would like to pick through that pile for sure :)
