how to put fur silencers on string

i split the string put in one end tighten string wrap it around the string split back open tuck end of silencer back in and i also tie mine off on both ends with sinew.

I do as woodstick except for the sinew, also you have to wrap the strip of hide the same direction as the string is twisted.

I assume we are talking Flemish strings. I tuck on end in just below the splice, wind the fur around a couple times and tuck the other end. Jawge

Just twist the right direction so if you need to shorten the string by twisting its going the same way so they dont get loose.

Some good pointers there - I would not have thought the string twist would have mattered... Real glad you guys mentioned that!

Any thoughts on WHERE to position the silencer?  I made a 'puff' silencer (a tangle of yarn) for my bow... I was surprised to find the amount of silencing changed, depending on where I moved the puffs on the string.  Anywhere with 6" of the nock point got in the way, and had minimal effect.  To close to the tips, and there was little effect, as well...

That begs the question - is it the weight of the silencers that deadens the sound?  Or the fur hitting the bow that dampens the vibrations?  I thought it was the later of the two, but moving them around seems to indicate it has more to do with the weight of the puffs, and how much the string is vibrating where you position them...
