I chickened out
« on: August 11, 2009, 10:03:03 am »
I sat down yesterday evening with a clovis on my mind.  Everything worked out OK except the fluting part. I just couldn't bring myself to try it.  I don't think I have enough convexity anyway :-\
The rock is Buffalo River chert. I like that stuff, it works very nice. :)
Not a clovis so I guess it's another one of them "somethings" :D

Good looking point. Set it aside then smack it next week.

I don't blame you a bit,  if I managed a piece that beautiful I wouldn't flute it either.

Ah Jamie, you'd hit it if ya knew you was gonna break it.  You just like hitting stuff ::)
I really don't think it has enough convexity for a flute. Plus, at less than 1/4" thick, I'm sure I'd break it!

No you wouldn't ;) Not as good as you have been hitting. If it breaks, chalk it up to a learning experiance. You ain't gonna hunt with it, no Mastodon's left. One that thin, I'd set up a platform and use indirect percussion, though. >:D
