learned an easy way to taper for glue on points!
« on: July 31, 2009, 04:16:51 pm »
hi guys. i broke the point off an arrow and needed to taper it for a blunt for bunnies but didnt have a tool, so i turned on the gass stove, burned the end for a little while, then scraped off the charcoal till i had it about right, then glued it up.

just figured this might make someone's life a little easyer!
lets just shoot it

Trey, scrape it on the sidewalk while you are turning it. About the time your knuckles hit the sidewalk, thats the right angle.  :)

Sounds like it would work. Congrats on your ingenuity.

In the old days, we used to sharpen pencils with a pocket knife. Every 16 yearold fella should have a pocketknife, right?

Anyway, you may find that you have more control over the angle by using a knife.

Good luck!

Trey, bring them in to the shop and do it on either of my belt sanders....or either of the disc sanders.  We can make a little jig that will cut them JUST RIGHT....and i have a hot glue gun too.
