New little Ipe/BBO bow
« on: July 28, 2009, 12:30:26 am »
Finaly shot in, now with 500 arrows accross her, this bow is surprising in its performance.
Ipe backed with Bamboo 3/16" thick at center 1/8", just before the nock taper, glued with Titebond III and 3" backset. (it now has no backset)
59" long end to end, 58" nock to nock.
1" wiide and 3/4" thick under the handle wrap at the physical center of the bow. 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick at the nocks.
Continuous taper from the center to the tips with a bit of whip tiller just because I liked the look.
Fistmele is 5-3/4", and the limbs had to be re-tillered after 300 arrows to get back to 1/8" positive tiller on the lower limb.
This bow finished out at 35lb at 28" draw length.
I was shocked at the speed of the IPE BOO combo, even though many folks on here have written of the magic of this combo.
Through my Pro-chrono, I got readings of 140fps with a 500grn arrow and  with a 315grain arrow 160fps (max) . Average velocity over a 5 shot string was 156fps. with the lighter arrow.
This performance has prompted me to start 2 more bows with this combo both are intended to come in at hunting weights.

Ipe is great, isn't it? Nice bow.  that combo sure makes for a fast bow. But, Photobucket is getting to be a pain in the Keester.

Nice job .. I would try and get the bottom limb working a bit more into the fades on the next one..

I think you hit the nail on the head, David. I was looking at the full draw pics, and I thought something just didn't quite look right, and that's it exactly. The top limb is very good... the tiller is perfect, but the bottom limb has a long flat spot just out of the fade, making the tiller uneven.
Very different tips and nocks, but I like them.

NOW I see the flat in that lower limb. Good eye on that one David. Thanks.
