Applying Rayskin Handle

Decided  to  put  rayskin  on  my longbow,  besides  super  glue  for  spots, perhaps goop,  was  wondering  if  some  have  found  what  they  consider the  ideal  glue  for  this  project,nothing   in the  world  like  rayskin,  that's  for  sure:)

I believe most use contact cement to secure handle wraps. Be sure the ray skin has been de greased before you try to glue it down.

If you are appling it in the green state, then I would use hide glue. If it is already dried,then I would rehydrate it a lil and use tite bond.If you choose to apply it dry,then contat cement will help you out.

OK  got  the  first  step done, using  Weldwood  contact  cement  and  superglue, this  contact  cement  dries  too  fast  I  think,  but worked pretty  good,  nice  thing  about rayskin  is if you  put  it  on  tightly it  really  doesn't  require  much glue  for  the  most  part,  this  will  come  off  easy  enough if  I decide  to  change  it,
   didn't  have  a  large enough  piece  of  hide  left  so  I  had  to cut several  pieces,  looking  for  a  design to  come  out  of  it,  will be  filling   in  the  seams  with  something and  finishing  the  cosmetics  up  a  bit  later,  but this  is what  it  looks  like:)

zeN Contact cement is supposed to dry relatively fast. You coat both surfaces to be glued together let the glue dry then stick them together. It is critical you stick them where you want them because the glue holds quick and fast!

Yeah,  I  guess that's a  no-brainer  now that  you  mention  it  Pat:)
Dana,  if  you  are  talking  about  going  in  on a  hide  I  might  be  interested,  they  are a little  pricey:)
Just tried  it  out-man  this skin  feels very  good, I  feel  it  really  improves  the  grip, I  have  used these  on  knives  etc  for  years,  nice  touch  on  a  bow

Btw  this  isn't  a  finished  project:)
