Boards? Could just be bad grain or too dry. With most hickories (which pecan is) the heartwood is more brittle than the sapwood. There have been a lot of good bows made from pecan.

How about putting up a photo of your attempt at bending. Should help with identifying the problem.

There are a lot of different reasons fer a board bow givin up and breakin. I personally have perfected about 6 of em (Breakin) and am still workin on the list. I agree with the others, need more info. and possibly a pic or two. One of mine is Impatience, I get in too big of a hurry to put a string on and see what she looks like, without gettin the floor tiller right first. Another of my patented moves is to pull the bow to a designated point durin tillerin without pre flexin the bow multiple times before I try and draw the bow to that point. I could go on, but ya get the idea. Some of the reason fer a Board Bow breakin, could be the wood itself, but in my case most of the time its me that is the problem. Good Luck on the next try and take the others as lessons, once ya figure out jus whats happenin. The Good News is Pecan like Hickry is great fer Bar-B-Quen a Rack a Ribs!!!

Boil the tips then put it on the tree. You got nothin to loose .I have one that was in a fire and it is one tough cookie.
I almost never got it down to my grandsons draw weight. Still has about 2 inches of reflex. One of the best bows I have ever made when it was in true form. It was an amazing short piece of wood before I had to scrape it down for him. :'( It was worth ti though he loves the thing. LOL!
