58" Osage sinew backed recurve
« on: July 03, 2009, 07:34:13 pm »
Sinewed this one up this morning.  Easy when you are dealing with 25" long sinew.

Still have alot of work to do on it.  Before sinew it was pulling about 60lbs at 27".  Only used one layer of some kind of super long back sinew.  I do not expect any drastic poundage increases, we'll see.

The sinew........the origin, well I traded for it years ago.  It either came from Africa as I traded a gent years back for some back sinew of some kind of antelope critter, or it came from Bert's elk cow.  I wrapped it up in an air tight bag and packed it away.  As long as ya keep the bugs out, it lasts awhile.

The hide glue is a mixture of knox gellatin and some kind of rabbit skin glue Allan gave me.  The rabbit glue stinks a little, well compared to knox which does not have an odor.  I'm going to try and get some more of the rabbit.

The stave must be 6 or 7 years old.  I got it off Murray Gaskins, funny, it looked straight when I got it.LOL.  But when I started to work it down, the twists and turns, ya just never know.

We'll see if it works out.

Thanks.

Neat profile....I think 60# is enough to kill a metal chicken, just don't miss the vitals - those spurs look lethal. ;D

That's looking good. I was wondering what kind of critter had 2' long back sinew, sure ain't our little deer around here. :) I've always wanted to see some backstrap sinew from a giraffe or whale.
