Stringing bow blues...
« on: May 16, 2009, 01:54:13 am »
I just bought a bow from www. woodbows.com and the bow stringing  instructions that they provide are confusing me. The link for the bow is here: http://www.woodbows.com/docs/  _instructions_stringing.pdf

my  question..and I have to really swallow my pride on this one...but I am confused as to which part of the bow is the front, and which is the back.

I assumed the back side (the side facing me when I am using the bow) is the flat side, which has the linen on it and the writing denoting the draw length and weight until I read the instructions. The bold part is where I get confused as it seems to suggest the linen part is the front...

Step 3
To string the bow, the flat/linen-backed side should
face up towards the sky. The rounded and all-wood
side should face down towards the ground.
Place your
foot on the black bow string, directly underneath the bow
handle.

Step 4
Slowly pull up the bow handle with one hand and slide the
bowstring into the nock with the other.

I can't tell from the pictures which side is which.

any help would be appreciated. The site specifically says that they won't replace bows that break from being strung backwards, so I guess it happens and I don't want to be one of these people.

The flat side with the linen is the back which once strung is away from you.
The belly has the writing on it :)

I've been so busy with school ending I haven't even had time to think of my bow.  What happened was I thought the "back" of the bow was the side facing you while shooting, hence my confusion.

Problem solved. Sort of. As the writing is on the same side as the linen/flat part. Perhaps this company is unique in that they put the writing on the back and not the belly?

No matter where the writing is, DON'T brace it with the linen side facing you when you're holding it as if to shoot it!  That would be really bad for it, if not the death of it. ;)
The "back" of a bow is always the part facing away from the shooter.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Stringing was successful. :) I'll let you know about shooting it after this weekend.
