what draw weight can you get from Pacific Yew?

Seems like pacific yew is the runt of the litter.  Everyone praises the italian yew, and disses the pacific yew.  What kinda longbows (self, unbacked) can you get from a decent stave of pacific yew?  75#?  40#?

Pacific Yew is a fantastic bow wood and just as good (if not better) as other types of Yew such as Italian - definitely not the runt of the litter. Obviously it will depend on what the stave is like, but I've seen Pacific Yew bows in excess of 120#.

I got a 52# at 26" 50" at 1/1/2 widest sinew Back though, PAcific Yew.

From what I've seen, you can get plenty weight.

That high altitude Italian yew is exceptionally rare, as I understand it.

Josh, a guy who used to post here, did a warbow buildalong, which is in that section, and used Pacific Northwest yew. He got over 100 lbs on his bow. Go check that out.

thanks guys...

i don't have any big designs to pull 100# bows...i just wanted to get an idea.  The way people speak about the yew that grows around here made me think maybe i wasted my time in the forest last weekend.

I'm sure you did, Pacific yew is junk. Better send it over, I'll take care of it for ya ;)
