can i make something out of a piece of red oak?

can i make something out of a piece of red oak 7mm thick and 1 and a half inches wide?


I'm new and don't have any experience at all at making (good) bows and need some help plz

the longer, the better...

i think with that thickness, it shouldn't be hard to make a bendy handled bow...

well, amigo, if ur piece of red oak is a uniform thickness...

mark center, and measure 4 inches either way, make a square line across the piece of wood. 

draw straight tapers from these lines to the tips, so that the tips are 1/2 inch wide...

that should do it:  the bow will bend through the handle, so you have to leave the handle full width or risk it breaking...also, you won't be able to glue any handle thickeners on, because the constant flexing and relaxing will cause them to pop off...you just wrap the handle with leather or something...

KK ty  so what your saying taper the tips using a ...........
a. draw knife
b. sander

use whatever you got...careful with the draw knife...cut outside the line, and then belt sand...

how should i go about making a bendy handled bow how do i shape it?

im only 13 years old and ive made 2 red oak board bows one was 40 pounds 25 inches one was 52 pounds 25 inches aswell you just gotta be careful tillering they tend to snap on you thats what happened to my first one i filled it with gorilla glue and got away with it now it works fine but its better in one piece obviously
