David:

I am in AL, I live in Wetumpka just north of Montgomery.

I did grow up in NC, but went to school at AU, where I met my wife.

10-4 Scrub

My wife, son, and I live in North West AL.
Good to see another AL. guy on the site.
Ask anything about bow building someone will respond.

There is a guy on this site (Knap123) east of you in Alexander City.
He is a super nice guy, super flintnapper, and a good bow builder as well.

If you get a chance go to the Howard Hill shoot this weekend and look Pappy and them other Twin Oak boys up Saturday.
You can learn a lot about building bows just talking to Pappy and looking his bows over.
And you will never meet a nicer guy than Pappy.

And I will leave you with a big-o ROLL TIDE.

Thank you all for the welcome ... I was hoping to get in a big fight right off .. I am kind of used to that over at the Leatherwall (Just Kidding!!!!)  LOL!!!!!

I procured two osage staves at the Howard Hill Classic this weekend and probably going to be asking some questions.

Can anyone give me a short course on Heating and bending wood to straighten a slightly crooked stave???

Scrub, straightening is a bit down the road. First you have to find the outline of the bow in the stave, release it and start tillering. Once you get it to low brace, you can see where(or if) you need to straighten.  Ask as many questions as it takes to get you there! ;)
