turning tips up on finished bow

I have a hickory bow 70" 50# backed with sinew. I would like to turn the tips up about an inch using heat. Possible with a finished bow? If so, how far back should I start the bend? Thanks, Clint

I wouldn't try it,I don't have much luck flipping tips or re curving Hickory with dry heat anyway.
I usually steam with much better results and not near as many failures. I use dry heat to take out
propeller and interduce some reflex but that is about it with white wood.

Also with the bow backed with sinew already, that would probably make it all the more difficult to attempt.

I agree with Pappy and Greg. Time to start your next bow and leave this bow alone.
  At 70", the sinew is only acting as an insurance backing and not add performance. Hickory generally doesn't need a backing and especially that long of a bow. The sinew and glue are actually adding excess weight to the limbs which can take away from the cast.
  You could remove the sinew and steam the tips to flip them...or just start another bow.

I had some luck with careful dry heat.
But recycling the sinew is also a good idea. Put the bow into water and let the time work.

70" is quite long for a sinewed bow. Makes the limbs heavier and actually cuts cast IMHO. I'd leave it alone though and start another. Jawge
