Well Timo: I said that your artfact had inspired me ;D. This is what I came up with. It's not thin enough and that collateral flaking is a bugger bear if your not used to it. I'll have to try again soon..

Looks good, Paul. I've always liked the looks of those Scottys. As for thin, most of the original ones weren't-they had a pretty heavy diamond-shaped cross section. Sharp and thin at the edges, but thick in the middle.

That looks NIIICE Paul!  Looks to me like you didn't have too much trouble with it. I think the flaking looks great.

Thanks guys. I need to get a smoother face on each side before I start the collateral thing to keep em more uniform. Maybe when I'm back home here in a few days.

Very nice son! And yes the cleaner the face the better it'll all line up. I know of  some utube vids the show how to flake a sloan Dalton. Should help ya out. Not sure if I can post them here though?

Went back to the creek tonight looking for more stuff.Found a really nice thumb scraper and a tail end of something heavy.
Not much hitting rock though.

Flakes that run across the face and meet at the ridge,from both sides. Sometimes these flake patterns have the apperance of being one flake. Go back to my thread about the "looky what I found" and look at the flake patterns.

Thanks Timo for that link. I've been watching that guy constantly ever since and gotta say - he's an amazing knapper. More knowledge in my knapping kit. Can't wait to get home and try out some of those techniques - wow!
