Winged elm bow

Got this stave from DCM a couple year ago @ mojam. Looked perty good in the log, but after splitting and taking off her clothes,I found that she had some nice curves and unusual grain.The limbs not only curve side to side but kinda roll back and forth,Had a lot of deflex in the handle so I left it and recurved the outer limbs. I had a hard time seeing the tiller on this one due to the twist. I guess it looks right?63" 45# @ 28".

I V spliced some bacote in the tips and over layed them with horn. The strike plate is also bacote. I tried the "Manny stance" on the hero shot.........Sorry Manny but it's still a bit cool here for flip flops! ;D

Oh that is sweet Timo.  You definitely got my attention with that one, The tips look great and I love the profile and all the twist,curves,dips and dives are the icing on the cake. ;)  Congratulations on an exceptional bow.   Keenan

Flip flops might help your full draw picture, but that's juss me ;D

A snakey D/R... WOW!!! That is truly an amazing bow. Very well done. Your tiller looks bang on to me.

Beautiful job.  I really like the tips.  What type of glue/epoxy did you use for the splice?  And it looks like you did the splice during rough out, correct?  The tiller looks good to me, the only thing I see is an extended flat spot on the lower fade, and if you look at the full draw pic, it looks like it might hinge.  Just my thought, could be the character of the wood.  Excellent work.

Aosda,Thanks for the kind words,I use gel ca glue, I rekon bout any glue would work. Cleaned the bacote well.I think I had it tillered to about 24" when I added the tips. Did the v splice first,then figured it wouldn't hold since all the pressure would be on the glue joint,so I added the horn over. Seems to be holding fine.

As for what looks like a hinge?  It's been like that from the start.The stave rolls to one side at that point, Your're actually seeing the middle of the limb in that pic. The top limb does the same thing just opposite.I'll try to get some reverse pics later,(if it quits raining). ;D I normally don't tiller bows such as this very well.I learned over 15 yrs to strive for that perfect arc, and these r/d bows just screw with my mind. I need to learn it better though,cause this bow is a real pleasure to shoot. the light weight helps with that to I figure?  ;)
