new elm bow i threw together
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:32:46 pm »
I Finished this bow up last week and just got to taking some pictures of it,  nothin special at all, just kinda plain jane.  its American elm and 56# @ 28"    deer antler tips and a deer hide grip i stained near black with black walnut stain.  shoots pretty darn good, its a little light for my liking so i will probably part with it at some point, but it does hit where i look, so i guess i am a little " on the fence" about keeping it...... what does a guy do with so many bows anyways...lol   - Ryan

Nice bow, Ryan. If you want to give them all away you have to make them so everybody else can pull them. ;)

..well, they say that imitiation is the best form of flatery...so, what's the front profile look like?  Fade dimensions, etc....this one might just make it onto my roughed out stave siting on my workbench.

Looks great!

Diligence-  the limbs are 1 5\8 wide and contuniously taper to 1\2 knocks, i could have got to 3\8 without any trouble, it just worked out at 1\2 so i left it alone, i dont eevr put a tape measure or pencil on them when working them, i just eye ball everything....well thats a little incorrect i do mark center on the stave.

Paul-  yeah you better get busy on that elm, i was wondering what happened to it!

AKAPA-  the lower limb is a bit shorter, the arrow shelf is not quite to center, but the limbs are slightly different in length anyways, i had the nock on the bottom split just a tiny bit during tillering b\c i didnt take the time to make the nock nice and smooth, so the string caught a rough spot and dug in,  so i just clipped it off a bit and made a new nock and adjusted the tiller.
