Cant be sure of material from pic however, looks like an mid archaic knife point  (archeological perspective.  ::) However, dont think its mid archaic looks a lot more recent. Would make a good "hoe" now woulndt it ? ;D.......bob

Never saw anyting exactly like that. Could be an adze or mattock blade? I wouldn't be sure that it's authentic either, it looks kinda like one of those gray ghosts. But you never know, there have been some wierd things found over the years, especially around mounds.

Nice peice! Don't know what it is but looks a lot like that hawk head I was trying to make awhile back - sure that's not what it is. Maybe something ceremonial? Nice knapping - looks really thin for the dimension's given, wow....

It was Thin.. I would say 1/4" to 3/8".. The lines in it look like growth rings and the straight line through them look's like it could be the pith line from the center as it does not show on the other side of the piece..

that was a cool peace for sure, it was also curved like it was warped  ???  and as thin as it was i cant see it being a chopping tool, or at least not for heavy work.

the leading edge was worked to be sharp so i would guess an adze . especially with the double notching. what area are you in. being that thin i would imagine it would break easily. evn a sideways glance off a skull could break it.  unless it was used to remove burnt wood like in a dugout

All the artifacts that steve brought were actually his neighbors.

His Neighbor's Dad collected them and lives down in TX. He didnt have specific locations and dates on any of them though.

Was hoping James would show up and tell us what was what. Maybe he can bring them up to hickory and drag his neighbor along.

Looks like it could be a ceremonial tomahawk.  I think I've seen a couple of similar artifacts but without the notches.
