one more spear, had to show my improvment
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:29:55 pm »
ok i made another spear today and made it pretty wicked, this thing is intimidating and i for one would not like to receive the business end.  i got a few large nodules of obsidian, no i knocked out a spear head today, its actually a bit bigger than it looks in the pic.  then  straightened another cane shaft, made a foreshaft and attacked like before, but this time i cut notches in the foreshaft and knapped a couple bleeders for it.  the idea being that after the bleeders do their damage they can break away and either roll around in the body cavity or at least fall away from the wound channel.  ihavent payed much attention to spears in the past, but this is the first spear i have seen with bleeders, although i dont think i am the first to think of it, i am pleased with my idea to quicken the kill. what do you think? pretty deadly?   Ryan

That one is really wicked looking.  Those bleeders are sick.  It should definitely do the job.

Looks plenty deadly enough to me Ryan! I like your idea - like you, I wouldn't want to be on the biznuss end :).

hey Ryan,
Cool. I agree... that is one wicked spear!
I'd gladly hang it over my desk at the convention exhibits company I work at, and then I'd just slyly nod my head towards it when people come in with a issue that I'd rather not deal with right away. :)

Cool.  There are all kinds of stuff we just don't know about our ancestors.  One thing for sure though, they were not stupid! ;)
