Jatoba (Brazilian cherry), Massaranduba (bulletwood), even bamboo.

Man, I saw the coolest looking bow today at the baltimore Trad Classic. It was bamboo backed, with bamboo flooring for belly. Looked great and shot fast.

Seems like sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't; only have experience with two Hickory backed Jatoba bows comming from the same board even, but one was great the other fretted.
Might give it another try, so! the wood is nice to work with and sure makes a good-locking bow!

How about white oak? I've heard that purpleheart can work too.
