First hunt this year
« on: October 04, 2009, 10:50:33 pm »
Finally made it into the wood
With stick and string I knew I could
shoot the deer and make some meat
So I stood and sat and stared through trees.
The rain did fall, and wet was I
As clouds floated through October skies.

Saturday morning was here and gone.
We had some lunch and when we were done
We headed back into the field
Still looking for my first deer yield.
It was dismal I must confess,
The rain was making all a mess.

At six O'Clock the skies did clear
At seven a nice doe appeared.
I heard a buck behind her snort
And she proceeded but came up short.
At thirty yards she stared at me
And stomped her feet
At what she could not see.

Another doe! A bigger girl
Another snort behind her still.
A third snort called them to the wood
The first doe stalled, I thought she would
Close the gap, I willed her to.
But the buck and doe had called her too.

Thirty yards, not close enough
This hunting game , it sure is tough.
What fun I had, that's to be sure!
And I'll go again to hunt those deer
And maybe, just maybe in coming years
I'll finally get to shoot my first deer! ;)

God bless you all!!!
