A little McCabe boys shooting
« on: April 03, 2009, 05:03:07 pm »
Not much, but I'd figure I'd post it anyway. Last night wasn't a great night at our house, so my borther and I decided to go out for a little shooting to try and relax. I've only got one arrow so I was shooting around the yard when I stumbled on a water jug lid (below). I asked Kyle to give it a toss for me.

I tried a new approach, having the bow ready so I could shoot more quickly. Within a few shots I was hitting, or getting VERY close. I was elated- as I'd only hit two other small moving targets, a bottle cap and a golfball, but they were both accompanied by a LOT of misses in between. I asked Kyle to grab his bow and give it a try. Within three shots is cedar arrow sent the little cap flying.

We were only at 5 yards, and we did miss a number of times, but it was a great shooting session to end a not-so-great day. And considering they were both bows I'd made and arrows we crafed ourselves- not to mention my own awful vision- it was a nice little confidence booster that I really needed.

Moral of the story I guess, archery is an addiction... it's therapy :)!

Aim small, miss small!!!   Smaller targets concentrate your vision.
Say you are shooting at a basket ball. You will hit somewhere towards the middle. Now a baseball...somewhere near the middle...a golf ball the same...a ping pong ball the same. Now, try an aspirin.  ;D

So glad to hear of you young warriors slinging arrows when things get tough.. I sure wish more of our future generations would take up things like this instead of some of the aweful crap they do... glad to have you as brothers of the bow... Hawk

Not sure I could hit a short little shot shell, but yesterday afternoon I shot at oone of our yardage markers from twnety yards (a 3/8" dowel stuck into the ground) and shot it in two. I missed high from where I was aiming, but it hit in the same plane so I was pleased ;D

Nice shooting!

The smaller your target the closer you will hit to the center....aim small, miss small!
