Mulberry Bow for a Friend

This is a mulberry bow I made for one of my friends. The stave was a piece Justin Snyder gave me, thanks again Justin. It is 68 1/2" ntn 1 1/2" at the fades tapering to 5/16 at the nocks. It pulls 45# at 28", the overlays are purpleheart. There is some sapwood on the back because the sapwood dove up and down through multiple rings. Also there are some black spots in the wood where there were some nails in the stave. I love this bow it is a great shooter much better then my last I will be very sad to see it go. :'(

Thanks guys. Aosda, I liked mulberry it is pretty easy to work and it heat bends easy, the only thing I didn't like was the sapwood and this stave had alot it took me forever to remove it. But overall it was an excellent wood.

Hmm... My stave has about a 1/4" of sap wood at least.  I was thinking of leaving some on for the contrast.  But, I still have a few oak and maple staves to practice on before I work on the Mulberry.  I'll think on it.

It looks great. I'm sure your friend will be pleased.  I'm glad to see you got the tips down nice and narrow.
This stave had a lot of sapwood, about 1 1/2" I remember right.  Most of the mulberry I cut here has quite a bit.  I have one log with over 2" of sapwood. I'm going to make some arrows from the sapwood.  Justin

Thanks for the comments guys! I'm very proud of this one. Yeah Justin the sapwood was about an inch and a half thick. I'm bringing it to my friend right after this. :'(

Gave the bow away, he was so excited to get to get it. He couldn't wait to go and show it to everyone and to shoot it a few times. It felt good to give it away and spread the fun of primitive archery, much better then keeping it myself I have more then I shoot anyways. ::)
