Silk backed boo backed hickory
« on: March 24, 2009, 10:45:07 am »
Hi all,

I finally managed to finish a bow again that didn't break so I thought perhapes it is worth a post ;-)
The story behind the unusual backing combination is simple. I had some splinters comming up from the boo... to secure the backing I tried a winding and soaked it with glue/epoxy first ... that didn't work as well as expected so I thought of an alternative. Some german bowyers mentioned that silk/linen would be an idea... and so I went and bought some silk... result... worked great, easy to apply... happy with it, though I have to work on my painting abilities ;-)

Data:
65,5'' N2N, about 50#
Silk, Boo, Hickory
a little bit R/D left after set
Handle: Walnut
Fadeouts: 1,6'' >> 0,7''
Tips 0,3''
nice early string weight
Tiller is not the best you can get ... but it works for this one...
Full draw pictures to come

A very well looking bow, I like the narrow tips.
And I am looking forward to the pictures of the full draw …  :)

Woo-woo This is a great looking bow. Crank it back to full draw for March Laminate BOM fun. It has a Holmegaard look - is that right?

Here is the full draw... I know it should bend a little more in the mid-limb section... perhapes after a few more shoots on the shooting range and I will retiller a little...
thanx a lot for those kind comments... means a lot to me that you like it (her?) ;-)

oldbow: jep holmegard/mollegabet inspired I guess
dean: I hope it wont start smoking  ;D ... bad enough his "dad" can't get rid of this habbit ;-)

Nice looking bow, I really like the finish. So the red and black wrap are silk?

Hi Hrothgar,

the red and brown wrappings are made out of dacron ... the one you use for the mid part of the string

the silk is beneath the black paint

The only thing I can see wrong with it is the fact that you are holding it, not me.  Nice job.
