The steel must have been relatively soft

 wow- thats incredible the shaft didnt crack- is the steel hand forged? from the pic it looks lke the aluminum you can buy at hardware stores, but it also is too thick- haha, what exactally were you shooting, steel breastplates? very nice head though, and out of cutiousity, is the material you used to attach it on there sinew or leather scraps? they looked like leather, was unsure but its a good theory. -jimmy

The steel was .050" 4130 but it must have been annealed.

that was from hitting a rock, buried within the sand of the target.

that is sinew holding it on.

That's not to thick .Personally I don't think there is such a thing as to thick ,to thin sure.

That would be 18 guage steel ,not bad .I like heavy points .mine are about 210 grains ,I use 16 guage .0703 steel .

Nice point ,heck heat treat it and remount it.
