I was wondering
« on: February 04, 2009, 12:20:09 pm »
Im working on an osage stave and one end has a roll abuot a foot from the end,the problem is the rings are paper thin there and Im having a heck of a time chasing one ring there so Im thinking I should rawhide back itQuestion is should I back it as a stave before I cut the profile of the bow out our wait till it is rouhted out.Would this likely br enough protection or should I continue trying to work it to one ring?,any help would be appreciated.

Sure back it but not before you've chased that ring. This is learning time! Use a scraper like tool. My hunch is the rings are wavy making it harder than usual. A curved scraper or cooper's tools are ideal. Jawge

Actually, if you click on the photo you can see a larger image. The cooper's tools are on the bottom. Jawge
