Ipe bows
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:31:49 am »
Howdy all, I am new to this forum and new to primitive archery!  Can you guys tell me what you think of Ipe bows?  I just bought a hickory backed Ipe bow from Pacific Yew Longbows.   I can't wait to shoot it.  Appreciate any advice.  Thanks,  Chuck

I made bows with ipe - primarily with bamboo-backing.
But I just finished one with a hickory-backing. It works very well.
In my opinion ipe is one of the best belly-woods you can get.

Ipe makes awesome bows. It excels in narrow profiles, and is very compression strong. All the bows I've made with ipe have been backed with either hickory or bamboo. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll like your ipe bow!

I'd love to have some ipe to make itno some bamboo backed longbows. I've heard nothing but good things about it, and there was an article in PA by Rich Saffold not too long ago detailing his updated ipe success :)

I love Ipe.  The shortest bow I have ever made and the narrowest bow are both Ipe.
Everything happens for a reason, sometimes the reason is you made a bad decision.

Ipe is good wood. Its not only belly wood. Strong unbacked bows can be made out of it..........bob

I made one ipe bow, and it was the fastest i've made so far and took no set , it appears to be a fisrt class bow wood
