Linen backed w/TB III... limbs took a 1" set... what's this...?
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:45:12 pm »
Backed the bow blank with linen and TB III. The limbs took a set from the handle out.  It's been 2 days.  Bow's been inside where it's warm.  Hasn't gotten any straighter.  Now what?

Didn't happen with TB II and fiber backing on an earlier bow.

Confused.... of course.

Linen won't keep your limbs from setting,it's just a good protective backing, and the glue had nothing to do with the set.Is the bow tillered well? One inch of set is'nt bad though. How about some pictures, and we can help you out. God Bless

Sorry unclear.... it took a set  just from gluing the backing to the wood.  I haven't done anything else.

That I don't understand.

Probally from moisture from the glue seeping into the wood.

OK, I'll let it sit for a few more days and see if it goes away... if the bow straightens out when the moisture stabilizes, or evaporates.

thanks...

I've had that happen. It's moisture, let it dry out for a week or so.

You might try giving a bit of backset until it dries. That might help it to have a straight profile once stressed.     Pat

I had that happen on a hickory backed hickory. I t was straight when I gled it and the next day it had follow. I let it sit for a while in the hot box and it straightened out.
