dumb question from new bowyer
« on: January 12, 2009, 04:49:40 pm »
I'm ready to build my handle on my first board bow but I'm not sure what to do.
I glued on a piece of wood like everyone else does and sanded the fades
to where it blends in nicely. I want to cut an arrow rest into the side but
I'm not sure which side to cut it in if I'm pulling the string with my right hand.
My friend says it should go on the left side(facing the belly)
but that seems backwards.Please help.
Thanks, Matt

Yes left, but no need to cut into the bow, you can glue on some built up leather or a piece of antler or wood for a shelf. By cutting into the bow you are weakening it. Just something to concider.

Good luck ! JohnK

If you shoot right handed and you are holding the bow like you would to shoot, the shelf should be on the left...unless you are using a thumb ring.     Pat
