A very nice bow... well done!! I am also a big fan of maple. Your tiller is spot on. Careful shooting it in the cold... especially self bows. I've had one blow up... wood becomes more brittle when it's cold. I usually don't shoot my selfbows outside in the winter.

I seem to faintly remember having that white stuff on the ground. It was wet and cold....
 ;D
Nice bow, tiller is great, and the stain really tops it off. Good job. :)

Absolutely gorgeous. And the first entry for self bows for 2009. This way we can admire it for one more month.
Congratulations!

That is one sweet looking bow there! You got me itching to get some maple and some red dye.

You said that is hard maple, care to explain to a newbie, I have lots of maple here in north carolina but none of it seems very hard that i have split for firewood.

Thanks John and John K  Yup were both cheese heads. Better than being yoopers I guess ;D
Thanks Chesjen-- yup its hard maple. hard maple is found mostly in cold weather areas and has bright leaves in the fall. The leaves and bark look different also. google it and you can see the difference.  :) Im not the best plant Id guy ;D Hillbilly is  the guy to ask.
PeteC Thanks--   Its just cocoa brown rit dye. It just comes out red like that. Ive used it before and it wasnt that red. Must be the mix of acetone. It didnt look near that red until I sealed it. Then the red just popped out.

Thanks Frank. Im surprised with the response this bows getting. Something about a self bow that makes them a whole lot more rewarding than with a backing. :) in my book. I mostly do boo backed which I love but making a self bow is just cooler :).
