« on: August 30, 2008, 03:41:14 pm »
I was gonna try something new. I am going to try a pyramid  board bow.The wood is  3/4 inch/3 red Oak. Any suggestions on the dimensions.I was thinking 68 ntn 2 inches wide at the fades to 1/2 tips. And around fifty pounds.

That sounds good to me. See what the more experienced say though. Hope it works out.   Danny

I made a hickory backed red oak pyramid bow a few years ago that shoots like a champ. It is 64" t/t, 2 1/4" at the fades and tapering to 3/8" tips. She is 53#@28".      Pat

Well I had to settle with 1 inch/4/60. I hope  this will still work. The wood is red oak. Not sure of what dimensions to use, or if I should make a stiff handle or "d" bow style?

I made a redoak board bow from the left overs, its 60 ntn,7/8 wide limbs,30lbs at 28. And i backed it with cloth, had to make it pink for my daughters B-day. So far it anly has about 1.5 inch of set,and shoots good. So I dont see why your pyramid wont work at the numbers you gave.
laugh. its good for ya

I don't know what this means.

If you plan to narrow the  handle anymore than 1.5 in. you will have to glue on a additional handle piece.

1 inch thick 4 inches wide and 60 long. I glued on some 4 inch bamboo pieces to beef up my handle area. This thread is old , back in September. the bow I made from it has already taken a deer. The bow was called my little red oak killing machine.

i made a hickory backed/ red oak pyramid last winter but it cracked while shooting in. Broke my heart too cuz it was FAST and accurate. It was 1.5 wide at the fades down to about 7/16 nocks. It was 61" NTN. I didn't realize at the time that I was being a little too ambitious for the skills I had.
