Start a series of short flakes down each side. Then grind the sides good. You should start getting that Ovate look. Then grind your platforms and run your flakes across , pressure flaking. If it's thick, crisscross your flakes down the side and then come back with your Billet and reduce your slab usesing the platforms you just made.

I just looked at those video's. He must buy his slabs. He could save some rock by cutting them a little, less wide.

well it doesn't seem to matter, jim seems to have piles of stone and everything he touches seems to be golden. if you listen to video he talks about liking the big slabs because he can still do percussion work on them. he goes over how to work some thinner slabs too...

I worked some slabs couple years back. Thiers several ways to go about it, all the one's I had were 1/4" thick. The slabs were actually preforms with square cut edges. Had to run flakes to center or better, stitch the edge, pick the deltas, then notch. Made some fine lookin points but bored me to tears, I'd rather bi-face rocks :).
